Consistency Is KEY

Like you I enjoy staying up to date on all the latest research so I have subscribed to countless email newsletters. This week as I scrolled through my email I noticed a pattern. There was a clear divide between people spreading knowledge and people selling a product and here is what stood out the most.

People selling products:

  • Made me feel insecure

  • Had me questioning my food choices and habits

  • Gave me a sense of panic

People providing knowledge:

  • Helped me feel informed

  • Were thought provoking

  • Guided me to practical solutions

It was uncomfortable trying to read some of the product pushers emails. I found myself in almost a slight sense of panic and once or twice thought “I need to overhaul everything! I MUST do this right.” But then I took a big deep breath and remembered health is ALWAYS what we are striving for, not some magic trick that is going to promise quick results.

The two biggest factors in changing your body and health are your MOTIVATIONS and CONSISTENCY. I have already touched on motivations and I encourage you to click the link to listen to the vlog, because you deserve to put yourself first.

But back to CONSISTENCY! You have to do something for AT LEAST 3 MONTHS to see high quality and significant results, this goes for everything!!!! You wouldn’t take one Spanish lesson and then expect to be fluent, but maybe after 3 months of working daily you could hold a conversation. So stop thinking that one week of a different eating pattern will give you drastic changes to your body.

A lifestyle change without consistency looks like this:

  1. Find a diet promising weight loss in two weeks

  2. Lose weight in the first 2 weeks (if you can follow all of the crazy restrictive rules)

  3. Weight loss is most likely water weight

  4. Go into weeks 3, 5, 7 without more drastic results

  5. Give up and move onto the next diet.

Stop being sold the next diet with unrealistic promises. Instead make healthy sustainable lifestyle changes AND COMMIT TO THE LONG HAUL!

Commit to making small steps to making yourself healthy. I am not saying it is going to be easy but here is the hard truth. You will not change your body without making changes. So start making small ones now, so that 6 months later you can look back with actual progress instead of multiple failed diets and a handful of meltdowns.
