Overweight But Malnourished

There is a new paradox in our modern society, being Overweight/Obese but Malnourished. It sounds counter intuitive, having extra fat on you but missing nutrients. Shouldn’t you have extra?

Modern foods that are highly processed (breads, pasta, crackers, desserts, sodas, etc.)  are full of chemicals and fluff that provided energy, but not nutrients. Whole foods like meats, fruits, and vegetables are packed full of vitamins and minerals, all of the building blocks the body needs to function.

So when a person consumes mostly processed items they are getting the calories they need to stay alive, but not the vitamins and minerals to repair tissues, run organs properly, digest foods fully, etc.

Your body respond by keeping its hunger signals on hoping that if you keep eating you will eventually eat something that has the nutrients it is looking for.

Low Nutrient Diet = ALWAYS HUNGRY = Weight Gain

This also means that the body will have a harder time time letting go of extra weight for two reasons:

  1. Hormones are out of sync

  2. Feels starved, so it will not let go of energy reserves

This is why simplifying weight loss and saying eat less calories doesn’t work. The types of foods you eat are extremely important.

If you have tried diet after diet without any success or have eaten very low calorie and still struggled with weight loss, take heart you can still see results!
