Doughnut Heart

Part 1 - The Four Pillars of Health

Nutrition - You Are What You Eat

Have you ever heard of the phrase you are what you eat? Well it’s LITERALLY true!

All of the things we can see our nails, hair, skin, and eyes are rebuilt and repaired on a daily basis from the nutrients our bodies take from foods. These nutrients are called vitamins and minerals.

More importantly all of our body parts we can’t see like our organs, joints, muscles, bones, and blood are all made from the foods we eat.

Do you want your heart to be made out of a doughnut? How about your joints from a tasty cake?

My guess is no.

When your body doesn’t have the nutrients it needs to rebuild and repair from life’s daily activities, things begin to break down.

It’s like trying to build a wall out of sand. With a little bit of water and shaping you could make “passable” wall, but the second it rains, someone leans against it, or the wind blows the wall will start to crumble. This is exactly what is happening in our bodies when we don't eat nutrient filled foods.

Like sand doughnuts are a material our bodies can use to rebuild itself, however not a material to build a strong lasting body.

For those of you who STILL aren’t convinced yet let’s look at some numbers?

Nutrient Comparrison - SN.png

Notice the doughnuts have 0 amounts of ALL the nutrients, compared to broccoli, spinach, and sweet potatoes which have an abundance.

STILL NOT CONVINCED????

Let look at what these nutrients do?

  • Vitamin C is responsible for keeping our immune systems fighting at 100%, so all the germs we come in contact with on a daily basis do not make us sick
  • Potassium regulates water balance (our bodies are made of 55-60% water) and all muscle movement from bicep curls to heart beats
  • Magnesium is responsible for over 300 biochemical reactions, not limited to nerve responses, heart beats, and blood pressure control
  • Vitamin A important for gene transcription and protein formation, AKA the blueprints for our entire body
  • Calcium is the building blocks for all bones, low amounts in the body lead to fractures or broken bones from a simple fall

All of the foods you eat add up…..to make you!

Next time you sit down to eat think about what is in your food and ask yourself “is this going to build a better me?”
