It’s Not You It’s The Pants
Like the famous breakup quote “it’s not you, it’s me”, I dare to say it’s not you that is flawed for not being able to fit into the pants, IT IS THE PANTS!
Any woman who has gone clothes shopping can attest to the frustrations of not being able to find good fitting pants. You go in and out of 5 stores try on over 20 pairs of pants and still nothing looked like you hoped. You then jump immediately into the self talk of needing to lose weight, shaming yourself for eating carbs, and make a promise to start a diet next week.
To you I say IT’S NOT YOU, IT’S THE PANTS!!!
As you try on all of these pants notice you have to pull 2-3 different sizes at one time because depending on the store you are a different size. THIS IS THE PROBLEM! The clothing brand decides what size waist in inches will be the equivalent to the “size” labeled on the pant, the waistband inches and size are not universal. Do not be mistaken this is not an accident, they choose the size to manipulate you.
In the video above I am holding two pairs of pants, one from the Loft size 4 and one from Lauren Conrad size 8. The size 8 pair of pants have a smaller waist then the size 4…...now tell me how that makes sense.
The Loft caters to a more mature clientele that is most likely struggling with their weight and so they make their waistband larger to make you FEEL GOOD about fitting into a smaller size. Lauren Conrad is found in the women’s section of all stores, however is focused on a crowd that is slightly younger and will often go to great lengths to stay thinner framed. They choose to make clothing that only can be worn by a specific body type.
We can all agree the fashion industry is flawed and manipulating you. You should not leave a store feeling better or worse for fitting into a specific size. Your pant size does not define your happiness.
Let me repeat… YOUR PANT SIZE DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR HAPPINESS
So what can you do? You have to buy pants!
First start by changing your mindset! When you put on your pants or go out shopping for a new pair of jeans acknowledge the fashion industry is flawed and IT’S NOT YOU! Say to yourself, “My only goal is to find a pair of pants that make me feel comfortable and happy. I am not worried about the size.” Remember no one but you can see your size and if your don’t care then there is no one else to care.
This is how you start a journey towards self acceptance that allows you the freedom to be different AND celebrate your fellow women for being different. Because despite the manipulation of the fashion industry we need all those different size and shaped pants so that every woman can find a pair of pants that make them feel and look great!
So from now on remember IT’S NOT YOU, IT’S THE PANTS!
